Spoof of American history and politics opens Series
Presidential “candidates” may appear!

This year’s presidential election has been a roller-coaster, and it’s not over yet. We’ve been alternately amused, horrified, surprised and awed during the primary season alone!

Take heart. MSUM’s upcoming season of performances by guest artists from all over the world is the perfect antidote. In fact, the first event of the Cheryl Nelson Lossett Performing Arts Series was selected more than a year ago with this election season in mind.

Toe Sandals Brown Dk Sophia Hotter Women’s Tan Open On Thursday, Sept. 22, the Reduced Shakespeare Company presents The Complete History of America (abridged): Election Edition, on the Hansen Theatre stage. Founded in 1981, RSC’s first three shows – The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), The Complete History of America (abridged), and The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) – ran for nine years at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus, making it London’s longest-running comedy troupe. RSC has broken box-office records at the Kennedy Center, Seattle Repertory Theatre, and the Pittsburgh Public Theatre.

Second in the Performing Arts Series’ lineup is Imani Winds, one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States. The GRAMMY-nominated woodwind quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its dynamic playing and commitment to new works by composers of diverse musical backgrounds. Imani Winds will perform Thursday, Nov. 3, on the Gaede Stage.
The Hot Club of Cowtown takes the Gaede Stage Saturday, Jan. 21. The trio from Austin, Texas, stuns audiences in concert halls and bars alike with its jaw-dropping virtuosity and exuberant style. The music is a fusion of hot jazz and western swing music, and features three-part vocal harmonies, yodeling, fiddling and slap-bass.
The season closes Thursday, March 2, with the return of the Ahn Trio, three sisters that sold out performances with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony several years ago. For this engagement, the piano trio (violin, cello and piano) performs alone on the Gaede Stage. The Seattle Times says, “With their multicultural assortment of composers and a huge talent, these women have a modernist, fusion sensibility that is perfect for our age.”All performances are in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts and start promptly at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for each event are $28 for adults, $24 for seniors and $12 for students.

All tickets can be purchased online at www.mnstate.edu/perform or by calling the MSUM Box Office at 218.477.2271 Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m.
